Meet Janelle DiLizio

Janelle DiLizio, Gallery Manager, grew up in Cape May, a small Victorian town at the southern most tip of New Jersey.  She studied art at Moore College of Art & Design and business at Peirce College in Philadelphia.

Continuing our theme of featuring our staff members and what they love to do at The Art Shop, here’s what Janelle had to say:

I love figurative work – mainly portraiture. In my free time, I am always working on an art project or taking an art class.  I enjoy working on finished drawings and my favorite medium is working in charcoal.  My drawing of my sister Danielle won Best in Show at the Yadkin County Art Council “Eye of the Artist Show” and Best in Show at The Caswell County Art Council Juried Show. Art has always been a part of my life.  My mother, an art teacher and a talented artist, always had a studio full of art supplies and encouraged me to be creative. I worked in a gallery in Cape May for three years before moving down to North Carolina.

I found The Art Shop on the internet while searching for Royo’s work, one of my favorite contemporary artists at the time.  After visiting the gallery in 2004, I was introduced to Pino’s work.  It was from this visit I became a fan of Pino’s work and this became one of the reasons I wanted to work at The Art Shop.  In 2005, I moved to North Carolina and began working at the gallery.

My favorite experience at The Art Shop was getting to meet Pino at his studio in Naples, Fl.  It was exciting for me to see one of my favorite artists in his studio and with his paintings.  One of the best things about working here is getting to meet all of the artists!

I have made an ongoing collection of some artwork that inspires me.
