New Year’s Resolutions

I tend to make New Year’s resolutions every December 31 and by January 14, I’ve forgotten all about them.  Something tells me I’m not the only one guilty of this.

I saw a very interesting alternative to making resolutions, so I’m hopeful this year will be different.  It was in an article in PSYCHOLOGY TODAY entitled: “Five Things You Can Do Instead of New Year’s Resolutions.” The ideas ranged from writing a letter to your future self to focusing your resolution on someone else – a non-profit you can help throughout the year.  Here’s a link to the article

The alternative I’d like to focus on for this blog is “Imagine the highlights of 2013. Make a list of at least 5 things to look forward to in the coming year. Anything from new episodes of a favorite TV show to a big trip you want to plan. Research shows that one of the best predictors of emotional health is the ability to anticipate and savor future pleasures.”

For me, the TV highlights of 2013 include new seasons of Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Homeland, Nashville, Mad Men and Doc Martin (if you haven’t seen it on Netflix, you should). (If you have another must-see show, let me know.) For 2013, I’m looking forward to a possible trip to Yosemite – one of my favorite places in the country – as well as trips to Hilton Head and New York.

At The Art Shop in 2013, we’re excited about our new mobile website. It’s not live yet, but it will be soon.  You’ll find it much easier to navigate our site when you’re on your mobile phone. We’re also excited about our 2013 events – a  Pino retrospective show with his family at his home in Naples, a “Small Works” show as well as a few big surprises we aren’t ready to announce.

Thanks for entrusting your treasures to us and for visiting us in 2012 – both in person and on-line.  We hope you have a healthy and happy New Year and we are looking forward to seeing you in 2013!
